Arizona Roads

Local transportation of freight is extremely important to Arizona commerce. In 2012, a large portion of all the goods moved were shipped to destinations within the state. Arizona’s industries rely heavily on the state and federal road systems. Main interstate routes include I-17 and I-19, traveling north-south; I-8, I-10 and I-40, traveling east-west; and a short stretch of I-15 traveling through the extreme north-western corner of the state. Various urban areas are also served by a complex network of state routes and highways, such as Loop 101, which is part of Phoenix’s vast freeway system. Many new freeways are slated to be built by 2025, either through new construction or by expanding other highways. To see a full list of road closures and restrictions due to construction or weather, visit the AZ511 website.

Arizona Industry

The gross domestic product of Arizona was $259 billion in 2011, giving Arizona a larger economy than Ireland, Finland or New Zealand. Arizona has many industries that contribute to its prosperity, but the top three are mining, manufacturing and tourism. There are major manufacturing centers in Phoenix and Tucson. Health care, transportation and the government are the state’s largest employers. Arizona’s metal mining industry historically accounts for a large portion of the nation’s total output, especially in copper. Copper, gold, silver and other ores are still mined in open-pit and underground mines state-wide.

Arizona Shipping to Texas, Colorado, Illinois and More

Because of the nation’s heavy reliance on Arizona’s copper and other ores, shipping from Arizona is in high demand. Most common requests for Arizona freight quotes include Texas, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, Michigan and Washington. Due to the length of the international border, Arizona also ships to and from Mexico. However, imported goods with a destination more than 75 miles away from the international border must be transferred to a US-based truck.
